Dachshund

Despite their small size, dachshunds are noted for their bravery and willingness to fight animals much larger than themselves.
Some canines are hostile to strangers and other dogs.
Dachshunds are excellent watchdogs and devoted companions in the home.
If properly cared for, they are excellent with youngsters. They can be a little challenging to train.
Some dachshund owners claim that the breed's various variants have distinct personalities.
The long-coat dachshund, for example, is said to be calmer than the smooth-coat kind,
while the wire-coat dachshund is said to be more outgoing and clown-like.
Because Dachshunds were raised to hunt, it's no wonder that many of them like digging.
Some dachshunds are also barkers, and according to one survey, dachshunds are among the most damaging dogs.

Dachshunds are bright dogs who are also independent and headstrong, making them difficult to train.
They thrive on positive, reward-based instruction and enjoy giving and receiving attention. They are sensitive, and harsh demands or punishment will irritate them. Patience and perseverance are essential. Dachshunds have an excellent sense of smell as well as a strong prey drive. Because they were bred to stay focused and follow a trail without distraction, if they are busy with something more interesting they may not always pay attention to you.
Many owners believe that because Dachshunds are so little, they don't need much exercise other than running about the house.
They do, however, require regular exercise not only to maintain their fitness but also to develop strong muscles to support and protect their backs.
Two moderate-length walks per day should be plenty. Allowing your Dachshund to run up and down stairs or jump on and off furniture can cause damage.
Because they are very social, Dachshunds don't do well as outdoor dogs they want to be with their humans.

Dachshunds enjoy living in homes. They don't require a backyard because to their small size, but they do enjoy going for walks outside.
Dachshunds enjoy a challenge, and as long as you provide plenty of opportunity for them to chase and find things, they will be content.
These dogs adore their human parents and do not want them to abandon them. Your dog may be more anxious while separated from you, and when they miss you, they are more inclined to chew. You may wish to use a kennel if you must leave your home without your dog. It is crucially important that a Dachshund is not let to become overweight.
This is done for a variety of reasons, including avoiding strain on the Dachshund's long back, which can result in slipping or ruptured (herniated) discs.
Ignore the beseeching eyes and only provide the amount recommended by the maker of the high-quality dog food of your choice.
Table scraps should be used sparingly, if at all, and cooked bones and high-fat items should be avoided.
Keep in mind that the Dachshund's sniffer can get him into trouble, so keep food out of his reach at all times.
These adored canines are low-maintenance pups who don't shed excessively or require frequent washes.
However, the amount of grooming required will vary depending on their coat type (smooth, wire-hair, or long hair).
Long-haired Dachshunds require the most maintenance, whereas smooth Dachshunds merely only a simple wipe down with a cloth in between baths.
Wire-haired Dachshunds will need to be brushed on a regular basis (every two days should enough), and their coats will need to be removed twice a year using a special brush.
